Introduction:
The Department of Economics is one of the four original departments (Political Science, Finance, Local Autonomous and Social Economics) established by the predecessors of National Chengchi University, formerly known as the National Central Politics University, in the year 1929. Its name was formally changed to the Department of Economics in 1931. After the reestablishment of National Chengchi University in Taiwan in year 1954, the Department of Economics began recruitment and enrollment with Professor Xun Ou-yang as the first dean of the department. A Master program was then established in 1972 followed by the addition of a PhD program in 1985. In 1990, the university doubled the enrollment class allowing the Department of Economics to become one of the most structured and largest departments. Under the leadership of all the previous department deans as well as efforts from the entire teaching staff and students, the Department has continuously improved and embellished its curriculum and teaching caliber. Currently, Professor Jenn-Jou ,Chen assumes the Department Dean position.
Educational Objective:
The curriculum focuses both on the theories and the actual practice of Economics for the purpose of preparing our students for future studies or employment. Therefore, our programs that involve fundamental courses or application and analysis are all designed based on the above objective.

1.Excellent Faculty Lineup: The department boasts an excellent faculty, including 2 Chair Professors, 20 full-time faculty members, and 11 part-time faculty members. Their research spans professional fields such as Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, International Trade, International Finance, Monetary Economics, Financial Economics, Industrial Economics, Information Economics, Housing Economics, Managerial Economics, Economic Development, Labor Economics, AI Economics, and Urban Economics.
2.Five-Year Integrated Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program: Our department is one of the few to establish the "Incentive Regulations for Five-Year Integrated Bachelor's and Master's Degree Program." This initiative aims to encourage outstanding undergraduate students to continue their studies in our master's program, nurturing top talent, achieving continuous learning, and shortening the time required to complete their degrees.
3.English Module Courses: The department has designed a series of English module courses from the undergraduate to the graduate level to enhance our students' international competitiveness. Students who complete a single English module will be awarded an English Course Certificate by the department.
4.Promotion of International Dual Degree/Exchange Programs: The department has already signed dual degree agreements with the University of Queensland ; Hiroshima University in Japan;University of Wisconsin-Madison in USA;Singapore Management University (SMU). We are currently actively negotiating and signing student exchange programs with other renowned international universities.
